History

10th Redhill Guide Company was first registered on 4th May 1944 and they first went to camp in 1946.  We have kept a list of all the sites the Unit has been to but we have two years missing – do you know where the Unit camped in those years? [list of camp sites]

Now

There are usually about 24 Guides in the Unit and 4 Uniformed Leaders.  Sometimes we have Young Leaders and Unit helpers.  At our Unit meeting place there are also 2 Brownie Packs and a Rainbow Unit.  Sometimes the leaders from the other Units come to help us and we have lots of joint events with them like bonfire night, discos and fund raising events.

We are a very fortunate Unit, meeting in church premises which are wonderful.  We have a large hall to meet in and access to other smaller rooms and a large kitchen.  There is a small stage and we have cupboards and other storage rooms for lots of resources and equipment.  We can do sleepovers at our hall and we have air beds for these, which we share with the Brownies and Rainbows.  The building is quite new and is totally accessible to the disabled with ramps and a lift, special toilets and there even wheelchairs available.  In the office we can use the photocopier, fax machine and the computer with internet access.  We can use all sorts of sports equipment like badminton net, basketball/netball goals and there’s even a TV with VCR or DVD player.  Our flags are kept safely in the Church for when we need them.

Opposite our meeting place is the town park with an adventure play area and lots of space for rounders, football etc.  [Photos]

Near to our meeting place we can get on a train to go to London or to Brighton.  The local supermarket is open until late so if we need something urgently we can go and buy it.

We can also use the fields and woodland belonging to one of our leaders.  Here we have our camp store, several acres of field to camp and woodland to play games.   We have some solid shelter there and chemical toilets in wooden cubicles.  We can have campfires, play wide games, pitch tents and we can even use the river, which runs at the bottom of the woods.

In our district there are 10 Units altogether, but only 1 other Guide Company.  We take part in lots of District events like the Pantomime, Swimming evening and Competitions.
