Top Award for 2 Guides

At the Celebration evening on Friday 14th July 2 Guides from 10th Redhill were presented with the Baden Powell Challenge Award by their Guider Cheryl Clark. Ellie and Roisin, who are now Young Leaders with the Unit, worked on the award last year and completed it earlier this year. They organised and led several activities with their Unit and ran the whole evening for two events – a co-operative games evening and an international evening for the Unit’s World Thinking Day celebrations.

Before Guides can start the award they must have gained at least two Guide Challenge Badges and at least two interest badges. To complete the award each girl had to plan and complete 10 challenges covering all five programme zones and then they attended a Baden Powell Challenge residential event. Ellie joined in an event with another Guide County, in Kent where she joined up with around 20 other Guides, and went to Camden Market, ice skating and various integration activities. Ellie stayed two nights indoors for this event, in November and was the only one there from Surrey East. Roisin took part in a Challenge in Leith Hill, and joined another 20 Guides from around the county, who she had never met before. The theme for this event was international, so Roisin visited several bases representing a variety of countries, experiencing different cultures and even learning other National Anthems.

In addition both girls also achieved their BCU 1 and 2 star awards whilst doing the discovery challenge and took their patrols on camps and gained their Patrol Camp Permit.
