Adult Help

Adults can help in a number of ways.  This is enjoyable, rewarding and good for personal development.

Becoming a regular member of staff with 10th Redhill Guides can be in two ways:

Uniformed Assistant Guider

Any woman between the ages of 18 to 65 is able to become a Guider as long as she has appropriate references and is willing to make the Guide Promise.  It is great fun, very rewarding and can help your career.  There are a number of women who have been offered their jobs on the basis of their work within Guiding.  In addition Guiding qualifications are in the process of becoming nationally recognised NVQ’s.

Training is given at all stages and support is provided within the Unit and from the District, Division and County.  Financial help with Uniform items and training is given and there are many times when the rest of the family can join in too - camps for example.

Unit Helper

A Unit Helper is an adult (male or female) who attends meetings regularly but is not in Uniform.  The Unit Helper must provide appropriate references, but does not have to undertake any training (although he/she may do so) and does not wear uniform, nor make the Promise.  The number of male leaders is (naturally) restricted.

Serving on the Mug Rack

The Mug Rack is the organising group of Redhill MUGS - the Redhill Methodist Uniformed Group Supporters.  This group support all of the Units meeting at the Methodist Church by fund raising and staffing various events.  The Mug Rack, decide how this should be done and together with the Leaders how the funds should be spent.  Every Parent of a girl in the Units is automatically a member of MUGS and is encouraged to spend some time serving on the Mug Rack as every group needs a Parent representative in order to benefit from this support.

Other Occasional Help

Adults who are always prepared to help at fund raising events such as Jumble Sales, Carnivals and Fairs as well as transporting children if they have a suitable vehicle are very much appreciated.  Adults who are prepared to put this time into the Unit before their daughter/ward becomes a Guide will have that time recognised.  In addition help at meetings may be occasional, again subject to appropriate references, so that adults who work shifts and cannot give the commitment to every week can still add to the support of the Unit.

Helping with another Unit within the Group or Guiding District

If working with this age group of 10 years plus does not appeal to you, or a Friday evening is not convenient then you may like to consider working with Rainbows - 5 to 7 years, Brownies 7 to 10 years, or Senior Section 14 years plus.  Alternatively there are posts for working with adults such as District Treasurer or Secretary, or Public Relations Adviser.

All adults are asked to complete an adult registration form which requires 2 referees to ensure that you are an appropriate person to be working with young people.  All adults will also receive advice on the Association’s Policies and Aims and will need to complete a Criminal Records Bureau check form.
